Halloween 🎃

Halloween 🎃

I have spent the day walking around the campsites and taking photos of all the decorations and activities. The campers that come here really go all out. The park also puts on a contest for the best pet costume and they have a contest for the best decorated golf cart. 🙄😀 I imagine there is an award for the best decorated campsites, too. 👍 As I mentioned, the campsites were really well decorated. I did ask one lady how much…

Indian Creek recreation area

Neither Hurricane Zeta nor any of its storms reached the Chicot State Park area. 😬👏 We had a little rain the first day but the second day was sunny and clear. The cold front that came through was wonderful. It took the humidity out of the air and the temperatures were in the 50s and 60s! I didn’t realize that I missed wearing jeans and enjoying a hot cup of coffee!! 😀👍 But today is Friday and Chicot state park…

Chicot State Park

Chicot State Park

After taking care of a load of laundry and a glorious shower in the park facilities, I was on the road again. Before leaving I spoke with the host Tammy, and another lady who was also deciding whether to stay or move. The big danger from the hurricane winds would be tree branches, wind- blown objects, or the trees actually blowing over. In the past they have taken shelter in the cinder block facilities but that doesn’t save your RV….

Mandatory Evacuation

Mandatory Evacuation

Obviously this is a very dynamic and changing situation. Shortly after posting that, following the meeting, we were given a mandatory evacuation to leave today, which meant by 5:00 p.m. when the Park closed. Storing everything away inside and outside took some time as I wanted to be careful, so I pulled out about 3:00 p.m.. it’s a long and tedious drive because 75 miles are on two lane- no shoulder roads until you are quite a bit onto the…

Tropical Storm or Hurricane?

Tropical Storm or Hurricane?

Hello everyone, As you know I was headed to Grand isle, Louisiana and I have been here for the last week. I have lots of little experiences and observations to share 😊But right now, the big one is the weather! Either a tropical storm or a hurricane will be hitting the gulf Shore by Wednesday. I just called the park ranger for information and the bottom line will be to start pulling out tomorrow, Tuesday, morning. They are having a…

Introduction to Louisiana

Introduction to Louisiana

Fairview-Riverside State Park, Madisonville, Louisiana         I have now been in Louisiana for a week. Wow, it seems way longer than that! I’ve experienced and learned so much! My first campground reservation was at Fairview-Riverside State Park. It is located on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain. I arrived on Thursday, October 15th at 3:00 in the afternoon. It’s sunny and warm!! The campsite resembles a large county park with lots of pine trees…

Travel Days #1-#4

Travel Days #1-#4

Hello, hello! It’s hard to know where to begin when so much has happened since I left Waupaca at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and arrived at Fairview-Riverside State Park in Louisiana at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday! 1,000 miles later and 40 degrees warmer! But I’ll give it a try! The drive: So for 2 1/2 days it was pretty much “drive-get diesel-drive-rest stop/eat-drive-diesel-drive-rest stop-eat and sleep” Next day, repeat. I managed to make it around all the big cities without…

Born to Travel

Born to Travel

Hello Everyone! It has been my wish for the past 3 years, to have a place online where I could journal about my RV travels and add photos for my enjoyment and memories. So this is it! Thanks to my son, Mathew, I am now ready and able to do this! (He actually had it ready 3 years ago, it took me this long to take the time to actually do it!) I am fortunate in that my family and…
