Back in Wisconsin!

Back in Wisconsin!

Good old Wisconsin πŸ‘

Hello everyone! I thought I would bring this up to date before I filled in all the experiences on the way. I am currently in Chilton, Wisconsin and will be heading to Waupaca and parking my RV tomorrow.

Sunday night I stayed at Meramec State Park, Missouri. It was a really nice campsite but the roads to get back to it were so hilly and curvy that it was probably the hardest drive for my truck yet! Oh my goodness! But more on that Park later

When I pulled out in the morning, Monday, I just decided to see how far I could get. I was 60 miles west yet of St louis. And getting around St Louis was really a tough drive with lots of traffic. After that and especially after I got into Illinois, oh my goodness the drive was so nice! I love flat, flat, flat! After all those hills, hills, hills! So I just kept cruising along. I only stopped for diesel, and since I was averaging 10 to 11 miles per gallon, that was pretty often on a 22 gallon tank. I never let it get below half empty.

For me, pulling the fifth wheel, it ended up being a mega Drive of 375 MI and 5 and 1/2 hours of driving. Since I didn’t have any timeline, the frequent stops were always helpful and I got out and walked.

Pretty soon I found myself getting closer to Rockford, I’ll! So then I decided I would head for the nice Wisconsin visitor center/rest area right across the border and that is where I spent the night! The drive through Illinois was nice. It was overcast but there were no winds πŸ‘

I went way to the end of the lot so that I could have my steps down without any semis coming on that side. I wasn’t alone for very long.
big rest area. I’m in the second row of parking which is behind These trucks.

Unfortunately, today was quite different! It had rained at this rest area, and rained off and on all the way to Chilton. That wasn’t too bad. What was bad was driving straight into the north winds. I could not average above 7 to 8 miles per gallon!! πŸ’ΈπŸ˜±

I got off of I-90 and took Hwy 26 up towards 151 and Fond du lac. The first 40 miles is now four lanes. I had no idea.πŸ€” I remember going through all those little towns like Edgerton and the cheese shop there. No more. It helped a little bit with the winds because it wasn’t so wide open as the interstate. I could get between 8 and 9 miles per gallon. AND there was way less traffic and it was a much nicer drive that way. πŸ‘ A real plus. So, here I am in Chilton πŸ‘

At Nathan’s in Chilton😊

Spending the night here. Then tomorrow on to Waupaca. 😎
