Chicot State Park

Chicot State Park

After taking care of a load of laundry and a glorious shower in the park facilities, I was on the road again. Before leaving I spoke with the host Tammy, and another lady who was also deciding whether to stay or move. The big danger from the hurricane winds would be tree branches, wind- blown objects, or the trees actually blowing over. In the past they have taken shelter in the cinder block facilities but that doesn’t save your RV. So the best course of action would be to move out. Especially since I was parked under an especially large tree!

Isn’t that a beautiful oak tree? But I would not want to still be parked under it when the hurricane came in!!

The weather here is getting obnoxious. And not from the hurricane. The humidity stays in the 80% level and the temperature is in the 80° s. 😛 I just do a few things outside to get the RV ready, and I’m perspiring. (I am so tempted to take the scissors to my hair and cut it short…. It’s either dripping wet or it’s fuzzy, there’s no in between!! ) This part of Louisiana is just a little too hot for me!!
Eventually I hit the road at 12:00 Sharp. I reached the Chicot state park entrance around 4:15 p.m. Interstate 12 toward Baton Rouge, Louisiana is a very busy highway! It also is mostly 4 lanes, but the two lanes you have are often old and narrow, some are new and some is under construction.

Hwy 12 old elevated causeway (bridge) for miles. Notice the lack of shoulders.

Most of it was easy but tedious driving. One rest stop and one stop for diesel. The last 11 miles to the state park were on narrow and sometimes terribly broken up roads. I’m amazed the RV stays together!! !!
When I checked in, I found that one campground was closed because some campers had Covid 😬 and they had a 14-day quarantine. I didn’t know they still were enforcing quarantines… but I’m glad I wasn’t camping here at the time!!! So I am in a totally different Campground in a different area of the park, as they have a North and a South section here. I don’t think I’m going to take a chance on using any of the facilities here, though…

This area of Louisiana resembles Wisconsin in the type of trees it has. You can get a sense of it from my campsite. Tomorrow I will drive around more and see what else is here and nearby.

it really does resemble Wisconsin parks, doesn’t it?

It looks like the projected cone of the hurricane will not come as far west as Baton Rouge so I should be pretty good here. Will just see how much rain I get. Oh yeah there’s mosquitoes here, too 😜!!
