Dewey Bridge, Utah

Dewey Bridge, Utah

November 06, 2021

I was feeling a bit better today, and decided I needed to get out a little. I thought moving around would help my circulation and I’d get an idea how I was doing. I did not intend to do any hiking.
My infusion nurse had actually told me about

scenic drive along the Colorado River going north towards what is known as Dewey’s Bridge. It sounded interesting as well as doable. I looked it up and found out it was approximately 32 miles north but of course it would take at least 45 minutes. No problem.
The road is Utah 128 scenic Drive from Moab.

The green road at the top is I-70.

It was a beautiful drive. The cliffs, the red rock, the Colorado River, the beautiful trees in their fall colors, the winding road all came together in a marvelous, scenic drive. Let me share what I saw.

Beautiful start to the trip
A huge wall of stone on the other side of the Colorado River
There are a sequence of camp grounds by the Forest Service along the Colorado River. This set is at Goose Island Campground. It is really a nice area. Most sites are small but right by the Colorado River.
Truck running well. ðŸĪž Gives perspective as to the size of these cliffs/mounds
Driving north, resembles Monument Valley
Suddenly I was out of the cliffs into this flat, rich valley. All these houses were built all around the field. They have to be for vacationers… ðŸĪ”
Yes. Farther down was the entrance to the ranch Sorrel River Ranch
The snow capped La Sal Mountains
The open range land between the hills
National Register of Historic Places
The bridge had been restored with it’s wooden road surface. In 2006 a fire destroyed it. You can see the support wires hanging. It’s kind of sad.
This is the modern bridge over the Colorado River just to the right There is no city here or anything.
This was a really nice Forest Service campground.
These are the pit toilets, but they are really nice and kept pretty clear of odor
They even had pull thru campsites here that an RV like mine would fit into. The curved area towards the trees on the right is the pull thru.
Just beautiful scenery on the way back. The traffic was light enough that I could stop in the middle of the road to take my pictures 👍
I’m getting better…
Just outside of Moab. From left to right, cliff, road, biking/walking path/bridge and Colorado River.
Turning around to look the other way you can see the blacktop path. That car pulled up and a woman got out and said she decided to take pictures, too.

Although this picture was actually taken as I was nearing the Dewey Bridge, I added it here for a different reason. One, is it reminded me of Monument Valley. The second, is it reminded me of one of the rules of driving and taking pictures my Dad had ingrained into me when we traveled. Always, always, always wash the windshield!! ðŸĪŠðŸ˜‚ ( The white spots are windshield wiper washed bugs!)

I hope you enjoyed the trip. 😊
