Garner State Park

Garner State Park

Hello everyone. I left Goliad after a very busy and historically interesting week. Many great things to share about the history of Texas.

Frio River runs through the park. Beautiful.

I am now farther west at Garner State Park. It is West of San Antonio, Texas. It is the most attended State Park in Texas. It is 1,700 acres and has lots of campsites at five different loops throughout the park. Beautiful area and very nice how they have everything laid out. They are on spring break here now and I don’t see anybody else from out of state. All Texas plates and families. I’ve been visiting with people on the trails and they immediately know I am from the Midwest by my accent! I have also met people from Wisconsin who have settled here years ago. Quite a few! And they tag me as Wisconsin immediately. Amazing.

The problem is, I have to sit outside on a bench at The visitor center in order to get wi-fi. We are surrounded by bluffs and there is absolutely no cell service or Wi-Fi service within a 20 to 25 mile radius! Quite a change! It’s been an interesting adaptation for me. I feel more cut off from family and friends now then before. But I have been reading more books, taking in some of the hikes here and planning my return. Weather has been cloudy every day, but it’s in the high 70s to mid 80s.

I will see what I can do to write a little bit each day. But that’s the reason for the delay. Hope everybody is doing well back there. I’m happy to hear so many of you are already vaccinated. Talk to you soon.
