Happy New Year from Corpus Christi, Texas
Today is the first day of a new year! Although it’s an artificial date, I like to think it mentally gives us a chance to assess the previous year, think of what we want to pursue and/or change in the coming year and do it. The feeling is of a “clean slate”. It doesn’t really matter if it is real or not. It’s the perception that counts. đ So let’s go to it!!
I wish for each of you, a year that brings you love, health, wonderful moments with those you love, and great experiences that makes sweet memories !! đĨ
Corpus Christi was going to celebrate the New Year’s with the fireworks that they did not shoot off on the 4th of July. I found out from the staff here at the RV center, that one of the good viewing places would be from Indian Point which I had been to. So I drove out there about an hour ahead of time. I had time to take a couple of neat pictures of the lights on the deck and the ocean. The temperature was only 47 and the winds were 20 to 30 mph gusts and cold, so I did not stay outside after I took the pictures!!
The view of Corpus Christi and it’s skyline was pretty far in the distance.
The fireworks was really cool and very pretty. The size of the fireworks had to be phenomenal. Especially when I compare them to the city skyline. I wish I was a lot closer. I had no idea I was going to be that far away from them. I wonder what it would have been like to perhaps be in my motel parking lot. Then they would have been gigantic right over my head!! đ
The fireworks lasted about 20 minutes with a nice finale. After that I drove back to my RV. I called my family and a friend and wished everybody a Happy New Year.
I then settled in watch a movie on my phone. ( Yes, my phone. đŦ) This is when it got interesting. About midnight I heard this low rumble outside that was not going away. So I threw on my jacket and shoes and went outside. I forgot my phone and could not go back for it because I was afraid I would miss something!!
Because what I saw was the most amazing sight! The airport is just down the road from me and I have an 180° view of the city skyline / residential area from here as I’m on the outskirts of town.
What I saw was the entire skyline erupting in fireworks!! Everywhere I looked!! Beautiful, large, loud fireworks!! It rumbled like thunder from the continuous , multiple explosions in unison!
You could not have choreographed this! It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen! I wish I would have caught it on video! People were obviously shooting off their own fireworks, and these fireworks were big! They rose way above the city houses. And from my viewpoint I could see a steady barrage of fireworks blanketing the area, all rising up as one. Absolutely beautiful! Corpus Christi knows how to do it up right!! It continued for 15 minutes after midnight. No lull anywhere. No empty spots on the horizon. Constant fireworks of all kinds, sizes and colors! Wow!
I couldn’t stop thinking how I wish Wisconsin was like this. Let people shoot up the fireworks and enjoy the night! Like Corpus Christi! What a great City! đđ
But then I read online today that the police had been warning residents not to shoot off fireworks (or guns into the air đĩ). They were going to crack down on illegal fireworks this year. đ¤đ Well good luck with that last night!! đ¤Ŗđ. Just about the whole city was sending them up!!
“This is 2020 remember? There wasn’t a whole lot we were able to do.” Somehow I think residents were saying “Bull ____! Come and get me! After what I’ve been through this past year, that’s the least of my worries! I’m sending up fireworks!!!” đ
I saw something very similar to what happened here in Corpus Christi on the online news today. If you go online and look for “New Orleans fireworks 2020”, the residents did something very similar and somebody posted a video of it đ it is very cool to watch… And will give you an idea of how it was here.
I was just thinking đ¤, last year at this time I had finished moving out of my apartment and putting everything into storage with the help of family and Two Men and a Truck!
Then for New Year’s Eve, this Grandma helped take care of three grandkids with Grandpa while the parents went out overnight for New Year’s!!
The next day we spent the first day of the new year playing Minion Monopoly. A much better version that always wraps up within a half an hour đ It is a lot of fun with the minions, too.
It’s just amazing to realize how much things have changed in this past year and how limited we are in our interactions with family and friends!! âšī¸ What a year.
Today I decided to do a little more exploring in parts of Corpus Christi. It was only in the mid-40s again today and the air was cool. It also was overcast off and on so it was not a very pleasant day. More like a November in Wisconsin.
I will share my discoveries tomorrow. I hope you had a pleasant first day of the new year. Let us hope it will be a much better and healthier year for all of us! God bless us all!!
