Lake Pleasant Regional Park.

Lake Pleasant Regional Park.

Part #1. January 13-19, 2022

Days 3-9

After settling in my campsite, I slept in for the next 2 days! The first morning, I actually thought one of the dogs was by my bed sniffing me! Nope, nothing there. ☚ī¸ It was a little disorienting the first couple days, waking up, wondering where I was…
The first couple days I spent getting the RV and supplies in order. And then on the third day I finally brought in my suitcase to unpack. I was able to do my laundry just before I flew out at Mathew’s, so it was nice to have everything fresh and clean. I checked such a small “carry-on type” suitcase that I used those vacuum plastic bags to pack a lot of my shirts and sweatshirts in. Boy did that make a difference! But it was surprisingly heavy.

my choice of tops to take along to Wisconsin
eight t-shirts were vacuumed down to this size. It was really amazing to watch how it shrunk in size. but I’m easily amused 😂
I just squeeze the air out of Ziploc bags for the sweatshirts. I used another vacuum bag for my bulky bathrobe. I knew I would really need that over a month at different homes 👍

I found that my clothing reshaped extremely well after removal from the bag. No problem. I vacuum packed them again on my way back.

I was busy moving from one RV site to another while I was at Lake Pleasant, because I did not schedule until August and that was pretty late. And that’s because I was not sure whether I was going to head south again for the winter. Mostly because of the age of my truck. The first site I had for three nights (#52) then I had number # 65 for one night to cover me until I could move into site # 36 for 4 nights. That one night, was a Saturday and I didn’t have a site booked. I thought I was going to have to boondock. But, there was a cancellation and I was able to book it the night before! I was able to stay eight nights, pulling out on a Thursday morning.

RV Camping Details

I’m going to include a little more detail than I usually do about my camping sites here. If it’s too much detail, I understand! 🤔😃

I was able to find this online to give an overview of how the Roadrunner Campground is laid out . The farthest Green Dot to the right is the visitor center, also the highest point.
site 52, located on the way up the hill of campsites, with a view towards Phoenix and the desert.
I had to pull out of my site and wait until the people pulled out of their site on saturday, before I could move in. So I enjoyed an afternoon in the parking lot overlooking the 10 Lane boat launch. I had a beautiful view of the lake while I had my lunch! And you can tell by the emptiness that it was not busy.
This is site #65, now on the other side of the loop near the top of the hill. The road behind it is the road through the park. This Campground is 3 miles into the park and the road dead ends to the right, up the hill, at the visitor center.. as I was maneuvering in, my tire tipped over the cement site marker. đŸ¤Ļ I tried to put it back upright, but not a prayer!! 😂 The ranger did not bother with it until I was ready to move out! All of this for one night
site number. Number 36. This is down on the flatter part of the RV campground. The road behind me is the same one that goes up to the dead end. You’re pretty exposed here, so this is when I often went to a day use area or hiked over by the Lake trails which I did almost every day.
the view from the roadside. A better idea of the beauty around these sites and I have multi-level of the sites.

Lake Pleasant has a lot to offer in addition to its obvious water activities with the reservoir. It has beautiful cacti, paved and dirt roads to explore, hiking trails, Day Use and RV campsites, a large playground, a nice visitor Center, the 10 lane boat launch and BURROS !!

Burros !

The first night I had my RV on the outside loop of the way up the hill, with the desert across from me and a large desert area behind me, I heard a noise behind me. I was sitting on the couch about 10:30 p.m. and there was a flutter noise which I couldn’t identify behind my head. I had the blinds down so I didn’t open them because I wouldn’t be able to see anything anyway. And I really didn’t want to venture out in the dark even though there’s RVs all nearby. So come morning, I look out my RV window and what do my wondering eyes see ??? Burro droppings right next to my RV! If I had opened the blinds I might have been looking face to face with a burro!! 😃 How cool that would have been. The noise I heard must have been a snort.

my backyard! The burros feel pretty safe coming up and investigating your place at night
it’s hard to show what this unusual Campground looks like. But I’m standing looking up the hill, my RV out of sight to my left.

I never saw any burros, meandering around the campground. However their droppings indicated that they definitely are there at different times. I was able to see a few burros by the side of the road as I drove out of the park and then some out in the Hills. There are burro warning signs around the park roads and on the highways, that are like our deer warning signs.

proof positive they make it into the campsites! This is a screenshot from the campground’s website. I noticed it’s the same two burrows that showed up in my pictures 😅

Birds

it’s amazing how the sparrows have learned the water can leak from these attachments and they are able to sit here and drink from it. Very cool.
a house finch discovers the water as well

At a previous site here in December, I dug a hole and put a plastic cup in it and filled it with water. Well this little bunny actually ran right across it and got wet and then came back and drank from it. 😊

so cute drinking its water. And what a find for the rabbit!
These are smart Mallards who are maybe here year round or migrated down for the winter. Used to being fed obviously as they came right up to me. Take a note of the mottled white one in the background. That is the result of a mallard and a domesticated white goose/duck (?) that apparently mated as there are a couple of white ducks that hang around here too.

I also scattered bird seed around my site to help the birds through the winter. They seem to appreciate it!

By the way, that is not a real cat looking through the window! Really looks it though doesn’t it?!

Well that’s all for now. There is more I will try to share about the scenery, the lake and some unique things this park offers. Take care.
