Mandatory Evacuation
Obviously this is a very dynamic and changing situation. Shortly after posting that, following the meeting, we were given a mandatory evacuation to leave today, which meant by 5:00 p.m. when the Park closed.
Storing everything away inside and outside took some time as I wanted to be careful, so I pulled out about 3:00 p.m.. it’s a long and tedious drive because 75 miles are on two lane- no shoulder roads until you are quite a bit onto the mainland.
I decided to head back to Fairwater Riverside State Park as they had openings and I knew the park. I also took the shorter way over the Causeway. The biggest problem was getting onto the Causeway as it is what we call that Polish connection ?! And with my big RV there wasn’t a lot of wiggle room for the cars coming off and on ! I heard two car horns blowing behind me but no crash and nobody hit me so thank God for your prayers everybody!!! ððĪðĪŠ But by golly I got on it!!
Arrived here around 7:00 p.m. in total darkness. Even with headlights it was a challenge to drive around the narrow Campground. The host and his neighbor came out with flashlights to line the edges of my pad so I could back up. It still took multiple tries because it’s so narrow… but here I am!! For about 4 more hours ððŽ
Since this is still in the pathway of high winds, with gusts up to 85 mph, from here I am going to head West to Chicot State Park. They have plenty of openings and they have no precautions concerning hurricane Zeta. It is about a 3-hour drive . Everything seems to be about a 3-hour drive ! Reminds me of that 3-hour cruise from Gilligan’s island ðĪĢ.
They have great showers here and a laundry room and nobody has hit either this morning as the campground is emptying out….so I will take care of both of those things before I pull out today. I should be on the road before noon. I will keep you posted and keep on praying ðĪð. Thank you!!
