The Aftermath of the Texas Cold! Part 2

The Aftermath of the Texas Cold! Part 2

When we last left off, I was going into a cold night with high winds and some sleet. I want to continue with the story and share some photos of what the aftermath looked like.

I was able to stay nice and warm through the evening, even with the winds blowing and periodically shaking the RV with their intensity. I have an electric space heater for the bedroom and I actually had to turn it down! Of course I have given up sleeping in night shirts and I slept in my sweatshirt for warmth!

When I went outside the next day, I could not believe all the ice. I’m going to share a lot of the pictures with you. It’s going to take a couple days before it warms up enough to thaw this, or I may be using hair dryers and warm water to speed it along!! 🤪

I had no idea that we also got snow! Along with the ice
the park roads were all ice. And the ice is on the inside of my window sills as well. I’m assuming the moisture that was caught behind the blinds and between the windows.
my truck and windshield was just thick. One side of my truck was more protected so I was able to open the door.

looks like my water wasn’t dripping fast enough. It froze solid. That blue thing covered in ice is my water filter attached to my hose 🤪.
everything is coated with ice. Even by the second day it still has not been warm enough to thaw.
a screenshot of the closures. I drove down Highway 37 to get the propane. The other roads are the ones I used all the time down there.
this is my sewer line and attachment. It is not only Frozen at the attachment, the entire hose is frozen solid! I will have to do some serious thawing to it before I can move sites. 🤪

Today is now Tuesday, the 16th and the roads are no longer ice and some thawing has taken place. But it has not reached the side of my RV so everything is still frozen. I have been able to stay one more night at this site so I have some time to hope the weather will thaw everything before I have to start working at it in order to move.

The forecast is still a mixture of rain, sleet and low temperatures again before it warms up to the 70s!! Still keeping my slides in. Going outside for short walks often. I’ve been feeding the birds in my backyard and I’m getting quite a menagerie and variety. This food is helping them stay warm. I have a nice fluffy rabbit that comes and yesterday there were two squirrels. The very first birds to find the seed were of course the Cardinals. And right behind them was the Green Jay which is a beautiful Texas bird.

cardinals, squirrel, rabbit, and a white tip dove
the green Jay and the cardinal. What beautiful color combinations

this might be difficult to make out, as their activity blurred the telephoto. These are two mockingbirds that are going face to face with each other!

Everyday brings a different kind of bird to join the others. So this has been interesting as I can sit right on my couch and see this happen. A nice, comfortable bird blind!!

I know it has been pretty rough up there in Wisconsin as well! I hope you are all staying safe and staying warm. Until next time… 🤗
